You cannot see a star without the dark of the night sky.
In much the same way, it is impossible to truly know your light without coming to know your shadow.

The shadow is the armor you built for survival, the layers you collected through projection, and the conditioning you inherited—consciously or unconsciously. All of these can become facets of the shadow, and until there is integration, these layers often manifest in distorted or painful ways.

The soul—the star that sits within you—is what you are excavating. Yet it is the shadow layered around it that determines how clearly you can see that star.

Through the work of excavation—through teaching the nervous system safety and allowing for honest, compassionate evaluation—you begin the process of gently pulling at the shadow, layer by layer. In doing so, you begin to truly know yourself. You see what shaped you, and what may still be shaping you today beneath the surface.

It is essential to understand this: you and your shadow are not separate. They are parts of a whole. At first, the shadow asks softly, subtly, to be witnessed. This witnessing becomes the lens through which the soul can be seen.

What was once unconscious begins to clarify. What once acted out now speaks. This clarity ebbs and flows like the tide, but once a bond is formed—once the shadow is recognized—it often begins to work with you rather than against you.

This is one of the reasons I have felt called to create the guided shadow ritual journals. They are meant to support those who, like me, are ready to excavate the soul beneath the wreckage of a hard life.

You are still bright.
You are still whole.
You are unscathed at the core.

It is your birthright to rise up and meet yourself.

It is my wish that these journals find their way into the hands of those who are ready to begin excavating the star within them—to remember the truth of unconditional, radical self-love.

The dance of light and shadow is ancient.

And so are you.

With love,
EH
